Which design is used in food and pharmaceutical production?
Double-wall plate heat exchangers are standard here, because they rule out mixing of product and heat transfer fluid by design - a requirement that is mandatory in hygienically sensitive processes.
How is it ensured that product and heat transfer fluid do not mix?
Each heat transfer surface consists of two separately pressed plates, welded only at the port openings. If either layer starts leaking, the medium runs out through the open gap between the plates instead of passing into the other circuit.
What role does cleanability play in food and pharmaceutical applications?
Product-contact components must be cleanable without residue. Smooth, widely opened channels without dead zones ease CIP cleaning and prevent product residue from settling and becoming a source of contamination.
Why is a leak in a double-wall unit detected early?
The open leakage gap between the two plate layers vents a leaking spot visibly to the outside. A visual check during operation is enough to catch an emerging leak without opening the unit.
