Which design is used for domestic hot water heating?
Double-wall plate heat exchangers are the standard choice, because they provide the system separation between the heating and potable water circuits required under DIN EN 1717 by design: a leaking plate shows up at the open leakage gap before heating water can reach the drinking water network.
What hygiene requirements apply to plate heat exchangers in the potable water circuit?
Components in contact with drinking water must meet the relevant DVGW guidance and drinking water regulations; that includes suitable materials, hygienic construction, and the ability to check the system for legionella regularly and disinfect it thermally when required.
Why isn't a single dividing wall enough for domestic hot water heating?
A single dividing wall would silently connect both circuits if it developed a leak. The double plate layer of a double-wall plate rules that out: if a leak occurs, the medium runs out visibly through the open gap instead of mixing with the other circuit.
What does sizing account for with hard water?
Hard water tends to scale when heated. The online sizing deliberately applies no blanket fouling margin and states this on the data sheet; whether a scaling reserve is needed is assessed by our engineering team when preparing the quote, based on the actual water hardness and the intended operating regime.
