Which design is best suited for district heating substations?

Gasketed plate heat exchangers are standard in district heating substations, as they can be rated for PN 16 and PN 25, are easy to clean, and remain dismantlable for periodic inspection.

What temperatures and pressures are typical in district heating networks?

District heating networks typically operate with primary flow temperatures of 80 - 130 °C and pressures up to PN 16. Modern low-temperature networks can run with 60 - 70 °C supply temperatures.

Must the plate heat exchanger comply with VDE or DVGW standards?

Yes. Units in potable water heating systems must be DVGW-certified. For heating water network connections, DIN EN 14337 and the technical connection conditions (TAB) of the respective district heating provider apply.

How is the plate heat exchanger sized for a district heating substation?

Decisive parameters are heat demand (kW), primary and secondary temperatures, flow rates, and permissible pressure drops. Our online configurator determines the appropriate model and provides initial guidance on heat transfer area and plate count.
